Speakers: It’s Not About the Hike – Nancy Sporborg and Pat Piper are two 50+ year old women who started out walking on the sidewalks of their hometown and ended up climbing over 160 mountains in New England over the past 3 years, through all 4 seasons. They have traveled over 1,000 miles and gained over 3000,000 feet in elevation, which is equivalent to climbing Everest from Base Camp 26 times. Their presentation is really about what we can do when we put our minds to it, overcoming obstacles, and what we learn about ourselves when we are out of our comfort zones.

Windfall Address: Josh Neufeld, Comix and Stories. Windfall Address Speaker Josh Neufeld has been drawing comics since he was four years old. When he was little, he wanted to tell stories about superheroes — and he wanted to be a superhero. Now that he’s a bit older, it’s real stories that interest him most, and he tries to use the comics form to explore "unconventional" subjects. His latest project is the New York Times bestseller A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge, a graphic novel(ization) of the stories of six real New Orleans residents and their encounters with Hurricane Katrina.

Speaker: Neda Sarmast; Nobody’s Enemy. To most Americans, the country of Iran is a mystery. For decades Iran has been a country whose leadership inspires, anger, fear and mistrust. But what about the Iranian people? Ms. Neda Sarmast was born in Iran, moved to the US at the age of nine, and has traveled back and forth ever since. She was an eye-witness to the Iran-Iraq war and her memories still haunt her as she lost her best friend to an Iraqi aerial raid. During the 1979 Iran hostage crisis and again after 9/11, Neda found herself defending Iranians and their beliefs to Americans, and in turn defending Americans and their way of life to Iranians.
